On Dec. 9, the Colorado Avalanche acquired former New Jersey Devils goalie Mackenzie Blackwood from the San Jose Sharks. The move made a plethora of sense for the Avs, as they were having serious goaltending troubles.
So far, the decision to bring in Blackwood has benefitted the Avalanche immensely, as the 28-year-old is thriving in Colorado.
In 20 games since being traded to the Avalanche, Blackwood has a 12-6-2 record, a 2.04 goals-against average, and a .926 save percentage. This was after he had a 6-9-3 record, a .909 save percentage, and a 3.00 goals-against average in 19 games with San Jose before the move.

Yet, what's more encouraging about Blackwood's play is that he is only improving as the campaign rolls on. The former Devil has two shutouts in his last three appearances and had a .933 save percentage in his last start against the Vancouver Canucks on Feb. 4.
Sometimes, a change of scenery benefits a player, and that has undoubtedly been the case for Blackwood with the Avalanche.
In 152 games over five seasons with the Devils, Blackwood had a 65-57-18 record, a .906 save percentage, and a 2.97 goals-against average.
