As expected, Brian Dumoulin's time with the New Jersey Devils is over.

The Los Angeles Kings have announced that they have signed Dumoulin to a three-year, $12 million contract ($4 million average annual value).

Seeing the Kings sign Dumoulin is entirely understandable. They recently lost fellow left-shot defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov to the New York Rangers in free agency, so they needed to bring in another blueliner. As a result, Dumoulin is heading to LA, where he will look to be an important part of their defensive group.

Dumoulin was acquired by the Devils at the 2025 NHL trade deadline from the Anaheim Ducks. In 19 regular-season games with the Devils following the move, he recorded one goal, six points, 14 hits, and a minus-3 rating. He also averaged 29:21 of ice time in five playoff games for the Devils.

With the Devils' blueline being crowded, it ultimately makes sense that Dumoulin has signed elsewhere. He should be a nice pickup for a Kings club looking to take that next step and become true contenders.
