The New Jersey Devils have plenty of exciting youngsters in their prospect pool. One of them is Seamus Casey, as the 21-year-old defenseman has shown good promise already.
Seamus spent most of the 2024-25 season down in the AHL with the Utica Comets, where he posted three goals and 18 points in 30 games. He also played in his first 14 NHL games with the Devils, where he posted four goals, eight points, and a plus-3 rating. Overall, the 5-foot-10 blueliner did not look too out of place and gave the Devils solid offense when inserted into the lineup.
When looking at how well Casey looked this past season, he is standing out as a prime breakout candidate for the Devils next season. Now that he has a full professional season under his belt, it would not be particularly surprising if he hit a new level.
Casey has all the tools to be an impactful offensive defenseman at the NHL level, and it is precisely why the Devils selected him with the 46th overall pick of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. He also demonstrated his potential during his final season with the University of Michigan, as he had seven goals and 45 points in 40 games. As a result, there is no question that the young blueliner has plenty of potential.
Overall, it is hard not to feel optimistic about Casey's future after his first season with Utica and New Jersey. It is going to be fascinating to see what kind of campaign he puts together in 2025-26, but he is easily one of the Devils' top breakout candidates.
2 Former Devils Still Looking For New Homes
After a quick playoff exit this spring, the New Jersey Devils elected not to re-sign some of their players with expired contracts. As a result, players like Brian Dumoulin (Los Angeles Kings), Curtis Lazar (Edmonton Oilers), and Justin Dowling (New York Rangers) have found new homes since July 1.
