NEWARK, N.J. -- Ahead of the team's Thursday morning practice, the New Jersey Devils announced goaltender Akira Schmid was assigned to the Utica Comets (American Hockey League).
Schmid has appeared in 61 AHL games, earning a 33-15-9 record with a goals against average of 2.61 and a .909 save percentage over two seasons.
This season, the Swiss netminder has started 13 games for the Devils (appeared in 15). He has a record of 5-7-1 with a goals against average of 3.26.
Nico Daws, 23, was recalled from the Comets on Wednesday, Dec. 27. He joined the team for their morning skate ahead of their game versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. He served as Vitek Vanecek's backup in the team's 4-3 overtime victory.
The last NHL game Daws appeared in was on April 16, 2022, versus the Seattle Kraken. New Jersey fell in the shootout, 4-3. The Devils goaltender made 23 saves.
