Hamilton had surgery to repair a torn left pectoral muscle.
NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils will have to overcome another injury as the organization announced defenseman Dougie Hamilton is out indefinitely after having surgery on a torn left pectoral muscle.
The 6-foot-6 blueliner was injured in the team's 5-4 victory over the New York Islanders on Nov. 28. He missed the final period and the team's following two games.
In 20 games, Hamilton has 16 points (five goals, 11 assists). He has averaged a little over 20 minutes of ice and is third among defensemen in blocked shots with 24.
The surgery was performed by Devils' Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow, and Team Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Guillem Gonzalez-Lomas.
While the Devils stated there is no timeline for his return, the recovery process for that surgery is an estimated four to six months.
His injury opened the door for 19-year-old Simon Nemec, who was recalled and made his NHL debut on Dec. 1 versus the San Jose Sharks. The second-overall pick collected two assists and finished the game with a plus/minus -2.
