New Jersey's head coach provides an update on multiple injured players within the organization.
NEWARK, N.J. -- It was a busy afternoon at Prudential Center on Monday, November 20. The Devils held their practice in the main rink for approximately 50 minutes, focusing heavily on one-on-one play.
Afterward, head coach Lindy Ruff met with attending media members and provided updates on his injured players.
To start with the positive, Hischier joined his teammates for practice Monday afternoon. There is no short-term timeline for the 24-year-old, and they will see how he feels after the team's Tuesday practice.
When asked if there is any chance Hischier can play in the team's next game versus the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday, Ruff said, "You know, I don't think I should rule anything out."
Meier was one of several players who did not participate in today's practice and continues to be sidelined with a lower-body injury.
In the team's game versus the Winnipeg Jets, Meier fell awkwardly by the boards. He slowly skated to the bench but remained in the game, playing over 19 minutes and scoring one goal.
Ruff confirmed that the winger has not skated but has been working out off the ice. He does not anticipate Meier traveling with the team to Detroit.
There is no update on forward Tomas Nosek, who left the team's last game against the New York Rangers after taking a hit from Jacob Trouba near Igor Shesterkin's crease.
After the hit, Nosek used the net to stabilize himself. The Rangers' goaltender looked concerned as the Devils' forward attempted to skate towards the bench. After a few strides, he fell to his knees and needed an athletic trainer to come out to tend to him. Curtis Lazar also skated over and helped his teammate to the bench. He headed right down the tunnel, and in the second period, the team announced he would not return due to an upper-body injury. There was no penalty called on the play.
"(Nolan Foote and Brian Halonen) are not expected to play in the immediate (future). Right now, it is still a long way out. We're hoping around Thanksgiving time, we'll have a clearer picture of where their health is."
That was the update Utica Comets head coach Kevin Dineen provided to Ben Birnell of the Daily Sentinel in mid-October. After the team's Monday practice, Kristy Flannery of The Hockey News asked for an update on the two forwards.
"Nolan Foote is doing stuff off-ice and is getting back into the grind," Ruff said. "Halonen is coming off that lower-body injury and is now back with (the Utica Comets).
