Hischier was injured in the team's Oct. 27 game versus the Buffalo Sabres.
NEWARK, N.J. -- According to the NHL media site, New Jersey Devils Nico Hischier has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 27.
The 24-year-old captain has been out of the lineup since Oct. 27, when he took a hit from Buffalo Sabres' defenseman Connor Clifton. NHL Player Safety handed Clifton a two-game suspension for an illegal check to the head.
Head coach Lindy Ruff had previously said Hischier was considered "day-by-day." When asked about their status ahead of the team's current two-game road trip, Ruff shared no additional update except that Hischier would not travel with the team.
In a recent interview with NJ Advance Media, general manager Tom Fitzgerald spoke about Hischier's timeline.
"With Nico, you know what, he's on his timeframe," Fitzgerald said to NJ Advance Media. "We're just going to let him go about his business, and when he's ready, he'll tell us." In seven games this season, Hischier has two goals, one blocked shot, five hits, and a faceoff win percentage of 55.2.
