NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced the club signed goaltender Keith Kinkaid to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $350,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level on Wednesday morning.

Kinkaid, 34, was undrafted and signed with New Jersey as a free agent in April 2011. He made his NHL debut in a relief role with the Devils on March 5, 2013, against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Prudential Center. Over six seasons, he appeared in 151 games for the Devils, earning a save percentage of .906 and goals against average of 2.90.

This will mark the Farmingville, New York native's second stint with the Devils. He previously has played for the Colorado Avalanche, Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadiens, and New York Rangers.

Kinkaid's agent, Allain Roy, provided THN's Stefen Rosner with insight into why his client agreed to terms with the Devils after signing with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL on July 18, 2023.

"The Devils wanted more depth at the goaltending position and are very familiar and comfortable with Keith," he said. "He has good experience in the NHL and can step in when needed."

Roy shared that Kinkaid playing with the Wolves "is an option, but we will see."

It's worth noting the Wolves are an independent AHL team after their contract with the Carolina Hurricanes expired at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. Per The Athletic, they will become the become first independent AHL team since 1994-95.

The last time Kinkaid played for the Devils was the 2018-19 campaign. He will reunite with teammates Nathan Bastian, Jesper Bratt, Nico Hischier, and Michael McLeod.
