NEWARK, N.J.-- The New Jersey Devils held an 11:00 A.M. practice at RWJBarnabas Health Hockey House in Newark before departing to Washington D.C. to face the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

One player missing was Timo Meier, who left his team's Dec. 30th game versus the Boston Bruins early in the third period with an undisclosed injury. After the game, head coach Lindy Ruff said, "(He is) being evaluated. We will see when we get back to New Jersey."

After Tuesday's practice, Ruff was asked about the status of his power forward.

"He's just being evaluated," Ruff said. "He won't make the trip (to Washington). So, he won't be playing in the game. …Hopefully, it shouldn't be too long."

The head coach revealed that Meier is dealing with a new injury that is unrelated to his previous lower-body issue. The team doesn't expect the injury, which Ruff called "medium body," to be long-term.

Meier has appeared in 28 games this season and has 15 points (nine goals, six assists). At practice, Curtis Lazar was in his spot, playing alongside Michael McLeod and Dawson Mercer
