Toffoli earned seven points (six goals, one assist) in his last four games.
NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils' winger Tyler Toffoli has been named the NHL's First Star of the Week ending Oct. 29.
In his last four games, Toffoli scored six goals, including a hat trick, and added one assist for seven points. He earned consecutive three-point nights versus the Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals.
Per the press release, his seven goals are the most by any player through their first eight games with the Devils/Rockies/Scouts franchise; four players – Paul Gardner (1976-77 w/ CLR), Lanny McDonald (1979-80 w/ CLR), Bobby Holik (1992-93) and Devante Smith-Pelly (2015-16) – previously shared the mark with six goals through their first eight contests with the team.
New Jersey acquired Toffoli in a trade with the Calgary Flames on June 27, 2023. The Devils shipped Yegor Sharangovich and a 2023 third-round draft pick to Calgary.
"Look at (Toffoli's) resume. He is a Stanley Cup Champion, a right shot, 34 goals, and 73 points (last season). We think even at 31 years old, he has a lot more to give and offer," Fitzgerald said at the time of the acquisition. "His experience of winning, you can't just learn that. You need people to help you understand what it's like to go four rounds (in the playoffs)."
After the first month of the 2023-24 season, Toffoli has scored a team-leading seven goals.
"He's proven he is a pure goal scorer," Fitzgerald continued. "To win hockey games, you need to score goals, so we are thankful that we got this (trade) done."
Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Jonas Johansson and Minnesota Wild forward Ryan Hartman rounded out the NHL's Three Stars.
