    Danny Nelson has three points in two games for Team USA.

    New York Islanders Islanders prospect Danny Nelson had quite the offensive performance in Team USA's 5-1 win over Latvia at the World Junior Championship.

    He was named Player of the Game.

    Nelson scored two goals in the game, including the opening tally, which came just 1:58 into the first period. 

    He finished a slot pass from fellow Islanders prospect Cole Eiserman:

    His second of the game came on the power play in the second period. It was a sweet backhand move to extend the Americans' lead to 4-0:

    In the second half of the third period, Nelson made a great move but rang the cross-bar, with the piece of metal denying him of the hat-trick. 

    Nelson, 19, is currently in his second season at Notre Dame, where he has eight goals and five assists for 13 points in 18 games.

    He was selected by the Islanders in the second round of the 2023 draft, 49th overall.

    At last years world juniors tournament, Nelson won gold with Team USA. He mostly spent time on the fourth line and killing penalties. This year, he is really blossoming in a more prominent offensive role.

    Nelson is wearing the "A" for Team USA as well.

    Team USA will continue its preliminary round schedule against Team Finland on Sunday at 2:30 PM ET. The game will be broadcast on the NHL Network.
