New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin was at it again with the robbery.
ELMONT, NY -- New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin is a walking...well, skating highlight-reel. On a nightly basis, he does something to excite the crowd.
The Islanders looked a tad delayed against the Devils early, turning pucks over left and right in their own zone.
Thanks to a Brock Nelson snipe, the Islanders found themselves with the lead, and they can thank Sorokin for it staying that way.
With 4:31 to play in the first, Devils forward Jack Hughes was left all alone in front of Sorokin. After a few dekes, Hughes was staring at a wide-open cage with Sorokin flat on his stomach.
The backhand move was there, but Sorokin made a last-ditch effort and got the job done, robbing Hughes with the glove.
The Islanders would allow a power-play goal before the end of the first, but if it wasn't for Sorokin, the Devils may be in the lead after twenty minutes.
This story will be updated after the game.
