
Following a rough loss last week in New Jersey, Tuesday's loss vs. San Jose made things worse, as the Isles blew a 3-goal third period lead to fall 5-4 to the Sharks in overtime.
ELMONT, NY – The San Jose Sharks came back from down three goals to defeat the New York Islanders 5-4 in overtime. William Eklund buried the game-winning goal after the Islanders hit two posts in the extra period.
The Islanders move to 10-7-7 and gain a point, with the Sharks improving to 7-17-2.
Ilya Sorokin made 27 saves on 32 shots and received the loss, while Kaapo Kahkonen made 33 saves on 37 shots for the winning Sharks.

Tomas Hertl scored a hat trick for San Jose, including two goals in the game's closing minutes.
The Islanders power play stayed hot as they went 2-for-3 in tonight’s game. New York also added another shorthanded goal while killing off two penalties.
Julien Gauthier scored his second goal in as many games to get the scoring started. Simon Holmstrom made a terrific individual effort, buying time before finding Gauthier, who ripped it top shelf. The assist was Holmstrom’s first of the season, Horvat added the secondary. The Islanders took the 1-0 lead at the 9:27 mark of the first period.
Just 2:51 later, Hertl tied the game. The center lane was wide open where Hertl received the pass from Anthony Duclair and put the puck past Sorokin.
The Islanders more than doubled the Sharks in shots during the first period, totaling 15 compared to the Sharks six.
The Islanders regained their lead 5:27 into the second period as they continued their power play success. With six seconds remaining on the man advantage, Brock Nelson buried a low shot past Kahkonen to make it 2-1. Assists went to Dobson and Horvat
Shots were closer during the second period, as the Sharks had 12 compared to the Islanders' 10.
Pierre Engvall was stopped by Kahkonen on a breakaway just a minute and a half into the third period. He had two attempts to score a breakaway goal on the night.
Mike Reilly scored his first goal as an Islander while shorthanded on a Casey Cizikas high-sticking penalty. Simon Holmstrom rushed the puck up the ice, recovered it in the corner, and swung a perfect pass to Reilly, who was cutting into the offensive zone. Reilly’s slapshot went top shelf, giving the Islanders a 3-1 lead, it was Holmstrom’s second assist of the night at 5:17.
Kahkonen made a tremendous save on Nelson with the Islanders trying to expand their lead while on a 5-on-3. It would not matter as Ryan Pulock put the Islanders up 4-3 with a power play goal shortly after, 8:27 into period three. Reilly had the main assist by setting up Pulock for the one-timer. JG Pageau added the secondary.
The Sharks would not go down easy, as after a weak clear, Nikita Okhotiuk threw the puck toward the net, and Kevin Labanc deflected it in with 8:05 remaining in the game.
With just over three and a half minutes remaining, the Sharks pulled the goaltender and scored quickly after. Hertl scored his second of the night, making the score 4-3, and a one-goal game with 3:11 remaining.
Hertl scored again with 1:30 remaining to tie the game 4-4. Mayfield failed to clear the puck, and a perfect pass went across the crease to Hertl, who had a wide-open net and scored to complete the hat trick.
Eklund scored the game-winner for the Sharks with six seconds to go in overtime. This completed the comeback for San Jose with four unanswered goals.
The Islanders continue their six-game homestand with a matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday, December 7.
