Islanders extend winning streak to seven games in overtime.

Rosner Discusses Sorokin's Performance Against Flyers

TAMPA, FL -- The New York Islanders made it seven straight wins on Saturday night after they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in overtime.

Tony DeAngelo was the hero scoring on the first shift of overtime.

The Islanders relied heavily on Sorokin early in the first period. He answered the call, stoning Conor Geekie and Jake Guentzel.

Patrick Roy's squad was out-shot 13-11.

The Islanders did come on strong after the halfway point, getting a few chances off the rush as well as off of strong forechecking.

Maxim Tsyplakov had a strong chance, but Andre Vasilevskiy got just enough of the shot before the puck trickled just wide.

The Lightning lit the lamp first after Jake Guentzel deflected an Erik Cernak shot from the low slot at 5:39 of the second:

The Islanders' penalty kill remained sharp, killing off two penalties in the period, which allowed them to even the score.

At 18:16 of the second, Islanders new defenseman Adam Boqvist buried a Mathew Barzal rebound to tie the game at 1-1:

The Islanders lost defenseman Scott Mayfield with 2:35 to play in the second period. Prior to their second penalty of the period, he fell awkwardly into the boards.

He tried testing out his right leg but ultimately had to leave and did not return for the third.

Kyle Palmieri gave the Islanders a critical 2-1 lead at 6:41 of the third period, just seconds after their power play expired via a strong behind-the-net feed from Maxim Tsyplakov:

Palmieri now has goals in back-to-back games, while Tsyplakov has points in back-to-back games.

With 5:43 to go Marc Gatcomb hit Guentzel from behind, and then Cam Atkinson jumped in. Gatcomb got called for boarding, Atkinson for roughing, and they both got five for fighting, marking Gatcomb's first NHL fight.

With 2:47 remaining, the Bolts brought on the extra skater, and Vasilevskiy exited. Sorokin stood tall, stopping a bullet by Nikita Kucherov

With 1:20 left, Barzal limped to the dressing room.

On the ensuing play, and with only 0:47 on the clock, Kucherov fired a puck that deflected off of J.P. Pageau and perhaps Alex Romanov's leg  -- and past Sorokin to tie the game at 2-2.

The Isles called a timeout and regrouped to end regulation -- heading to overtime.

In overtime, playing without Barzal, Bo Horvat hit DeAngelo on a spectacular stretch pass, and DeAngelo scored his first goal of the season, his first as an Islander and, of course, the game-winning goal.

The win extends the Islanders' winning streak to seven games.
