The New York Islanders staved off elimination on Saturday afternoon after a 4-3 shootout win over the Philadelphia Flyers.
Bobby Brink scored the shootout game winner in Round Five.
They will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2021-22, Barry Trotz's last season behind the bench.
Here’s how it happened:
The Flyers nearly opened the scoring five minutes in when Jamie Drysdale rang a shot off the post.
At 7:30, Sean Couturier found Matvei Michkov for a breakaway, but he missed the net.
The Islanders outshot the Flyers 12-8.
The Flyers went to the power play at 3:08 when Noah Dobson hooked Tyson Foerster.
It took just 20 seconds for Philly to get on the scoresheet when Foerster made a nifty backhand move to roof a shot past Hogberg:
The Islanders went to the power play at 8:59 when Cam York tripped Casey Cizikas, and a beautiful passing play by Dobson found Lee in front of the net with an open net at 10:54:
With under three minutes remaining in the second period, Dobson received Bo Horvat’s feed and went five-hole to put the Islanders ahead 2-1:
This was Dobson’s 10th goal of the season and 50th of his NHL career.
The Islanders outshot the Flyers 14-4 in the period.
Jakob Pelletier tied the game at 2-2 with a five-hole shot following an impressive passing play by the Flyers at 4:29 of the third period:
The Islanders took a penalty on the power play for the second time of the game when Max Tsyplakov hooked Foerster at 8:16.
Then, Foerster got his second goal of the afternoon with a five-hole shot at 10:34
With 3:03 remaining in the third period, Pierre Engvall skid-stopped in his own zone, sustaining a lower-body injury. He was helped off the ice.
Bo Horvat tied the game with 1:01 to play in the third, sending a wrist shot through a screen to keep the Islanders' season alive:
