    Rapid Recap:

The Islanders took a penalty just 4:25 into the game, with Pierre Engvall taking an interference penalty in the neutral zone.

For an Islanders penalty kill that has been dreadful, it was a strong start to the game as they were aggressive and didn't allow much.

The Flames scored the first goal of the game at 12:16 of the first after Alexander Romanov got caught flat-footed, leading to more time and space for Martin Pospisil to cut to the net and beat Ilya Sorokin.

Hudson Fasching answered for the Islanders with his first of the season, beating Jacob Markstrom after a semi-toe-drag from the slot. Cal Clutterbuck, in career game No, 999 earned the primary assist after hard work along the half-wall.

Brock Nelson was given the secondary assist on the play.

The Islanders went to their first power play of the game at 3:52 of the second after Nazem Kadri went off for hooking against Adam Pelech.

Less than 20 seconds later, Kyle Palmieri snapped a nine-game goal drought, burying a rebound at 4:07 of the second to give New York a 2-1 lead.

Bo Horvat extended his point streak to five games (one goal, four assists) with the primary assist, while Noah Dobson extended his point streak to three games (one goal, two assists).

The Islanders took their second penalty of the game at 7:54 of the second, with Ryan Pulock off for holding after Michael Backlund split the seas to get a semi-breakaway chance which Sorokin stopped.

The Flames ended their own power play almost immediately, as Jonathan Huberdeau high-sticked Simon Holmstrom, leading to 4-on-4 action.

That's when Mathew Barzal gave New York a 3-1 lead as he picked off a Rasmus Andersson past in the slot and beat Markstrom for his fourth of the season.

That extended Barzal's point streak to four games, with two goals and four assists.

After Simon Holmstrom blocked a shot, the Flames controlled the offense zone. Nick DeSimone found a semi-open Blake Coleman at the back post, even though Scott Mayfield seemed to be right there, making it a 3-2 game.

The Islanders found themselves on the penalty kill moments later, but for a second time tonight, the Flames negated their power play as Noah Hanifin slashed Casey Cizikas after No. 53 stole the puck on the forecheck.

The Flames pushed in the third and got the equalizer courtesy of a Mackenzie Weegar point shot, which deflected off Alex Romanov's stick at 3:12 of the third.

But Brock Nelson got the Islanders back on top 19 seconds later off a rebound for his eighth of the season.

Sebastian Aho and Palmieri were credited with the assists.

After Oliver Wahlstrom failed to make a play along the boards, Yegor Sharangovich deflects a Noah Hanifin point shot with just over six minutes to play in the third to the game at 4-4.

Oliver Wahlstrom scored the game-winner in the shootout.
