New York Islanders Mathew Barzal earned his 400th career point Thursday night against the Arizona Coyotes.

TEMPE, AZ -- After being named to his third NHL All-Star team, New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal reached another career milestone, recording his 400th NHL point against the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday.

He is the 17th player in franchise history to accomplish the feat. The former first-round pick has 115 goals and 285 assists in 457 career games, alongside a Calder Memorial Trophy victory in 2018.

Barzal reached the milestone with an assist on Mike Reilly’s first-period goal. After Barzal knocked down a failed Coyote clearance, he found some space in the high slot to dish the puck to a driving Mike Reilly.

The defenseman finished the shot on Arizona goalie Connor Ingram, giving the Islanders a 2-0 edge and Barzal the primary helper.

Barzal is the third active Islander to join the 400-point club. Brock Nelson reached the mark on Nov. 3, 2022, and team captain Anders Lee joined him on Jan. 28, 2023. Barzal also joins former teammates Josh Bailey and John Tavares.

In addition, he is tied for the seventh-fastest player to earn the accomplishment, matching John Tonelli’s mark of 457 contests. Barzal is also the seventh player from the 2015 NHL Draft class to reach 400 points, joining the likes of Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, and Kyle Connor.

With 400 points in the books for Barzal, his sights now shift to the 500-point mark, a recognition that only 11 Islanders have reached, including Tavares and Bailey. Nelson will reach the milestone soon, sitting five points shy of the 500, but Barzal will likely get there next.
