Islanders Mathew Barzal hits another milestone.
In a year of milestones for the New York Islanders, All-Star Mathew Barzal added another to his list.
In the third period of their game against the Lightning, Barzal recorded his 300th career NHL assist, becoming the 12th Islander in franchise history to accomplish that feat.
The last player to reach that feat was Josh Bailey on Nov. 13th, 2019, against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Barzal reached the milestone when he earned the primary assist on Anders Lee's third-period goal:
Barzal is the only active Islander with 300 career assists.
Brock Nelson sits 58 assists back from the 300 mark. Meanwhile, Bo Horvat sits 45 off of the number, although 219 of his 255 career assists came as a member of the Vancouver Canucks.
Hitting the 300th career assist mark makes Barzal (No. 16) the fourth player from the 2015 NHL Draft class to do so.
Joining the likes of Connor McDavid (No. 1), Mitch Marner (No. 4), and Mikko Rantanen (No. 10)
Barzal is also a member of the 400-point club with those three, along with Sebastian Aho (No. 35), Jack Eichel (No. 2), and Kyle Connor (No. 17) of the 2015 NHL Draft class.
Joining the 300-assist club is a big feat for Mat Barzal, and now he looks forward to earning his 500th career point, which he sits 78 (subject to change) points back from. Nelson reached the milestone on Jan. 23rd against the Vegas Golden Knights.
