Islanders Fall to Avalanche 7-4moreVideos

There's a goal rush on in Elmont.

Trouble is, Colorado rushed seven goal-dies over the New York Islanders goal line last night while the home team managed just a quartet of red lights.

More trouble: Ilya Sorokin, who usually finds his goal crease home, sweet, home at UBS Arena, took the Tuesday night contest on the chin, despite some fabulous saves.

Even more trouble, the Islanders pride themselves on their defensive game. But, alas, the Avalanche broke a third-period 4-4 tie and eventually closed the goal box with a pair of open-netters.

And, finally, when coach Lane Lambert's team racks up four goals, you have to figure they'll get at least a point out of it. That, unfortunately, was not the point last night for the home club.

That said, there were a few smile-producers for the Elmont crowd.

1. Hung In There: The Orange and Blue kept pace with one of the NHL's best teams --   well into the third period.

2. Cal Clutterbuck: Third star of the game -- finished with a goal and an assist.

3. King Kyle: For the fourth straight game, Kyle Palmieri got on the home score sheet.

4. A Couple Of Firsts: Anders Lee and Simon Holmstrom each scored their first goal of the season.

5. Matty Magic: Master Barzal extended his point streak to four games with his 260th career assist. That lifted his lifetime record to 260 helpers, passing Billy Harris (1972-1980) for sole possession of 15th in club history

In A Nutshell: When the dust had cleared, it was a case of Close But No Cigar for the Isles.

The Avs not only got the stogie but a pair of points as well!
