Rapid Recap:
Trent Frederic (3) gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with 5:55 to go in the first after James Van Riemsdyk found him in the slot after a Scott Mayfield turnover.
Brock Nelson (6) tied the game at 1-1 on the power play with 2:39 to play in the first after he wacked home a rebound following a Noah Dobson slap shot. Mathew Barzal recorded the secondary assist.
Dobson extended his point streak to three games and now has 12 points in 12 games.
The Bruins took a 2-1 lead on the power play with 13:54 to play in the second after Pavel Zacha found Charlie Coyle (3) unguarded in the slot. He made no mistake with his shot, beating Sorokin blocker side.
That was the first power-play goal the Islanders had allowed on the road this season, killing off all nine ahead of Coyle's dagger.
Simon Holmstrom tied the game at 2-2 while on the penalty kill as he finished off a strong feed from Jean-Gabriel Pageau at the blocker side post.
The young Swede has three goals in his last four games, two of which have come on the penalty kill.
But the Islanders still had a penalty to kill off, and they failed to do that as David Pastrnak (10) beat Sorokin through a screen 43 seconds later, assisted by Kevin Shattenkirk and Brad Marchand.
Coyle scored his second of the game (4) with 10;36 to play in the third as an Islanders' turnover allowed James Van Riemsdyk to walk toward the low slot and find Coyle waiting at the glove-side post.
Samuel Bolduc was the lone defenseman down low, and he got caught puck-watching.
Coyle recorded his first career hat trick on the empty-net goal with 1:21 to play as the Islanders fell 5-2.
