After a disappointing loss Saturday night, the New York Islanders were a step behind against the Minnesota Wild.

Islanders Blanked 5-0 By Wild

The New York Islanders failed to bounce back after a last-second loss in Nashville as they were shut out by the Minnesota Wild 5-0 on Monday night.

Wild netminder Marc-Andre Fleury earned career win No. 552 and now sits alone for the second-most wins in NHL history.

Here's how the game unfolded:

After Anders Lee poked at a loose puck at 1:05 of the first period, he received a slashing penalty leading to the Wild's first goal.

Mas Zucarrello, who skated in his 800th NHL game, beat Ilya Sorokin with a wrist shot from inside the left dot to give Minnesota a 1-0 lead at 2:11 of the first.

The Islanders would get an opportunity to even score on the power play a few minutes later, but the closest they came was Bo Horvat wiring a wrist shot off the crossbar.

The Islanders ended the first period down 1-0, starting the second period on the kill with 41 seconds remaining on a Kyle Palmieri high-sticking penalty.

The Wild would score two goals in the second period to take a 3-0 lead.

Just 2:18 into the middle frame, Sebastian Aho turned the puck over in an effort to make a board pass out of the zone. Wild forward Connor Dewar picked off the pass before beating Sorokin blocker side.

At 13:36 of the second, Eriksson-Ek scored the Wild's second power-play goal of the game, tapping one home from the low slot.

The Islanders were outshot 21-3 in the middle frame with just one shot through 16 minutes.

Ken Appleby came in for Sorokin, as he made his first NHL appearance since Jan. 25, 2018, which came as a member of the New Jersey Devils.

The Wild took their foot off the gas in the third period, but the Islanders couldn't take advantage.

While on the power play, the Islanders allowed Eriksson-Ek to score on a shorthanded odd-man rush with 3:51 to play in the third to make it 4-0.

Marcus Foligno made it 5-0 with 53 seconds to play.
