The New York Islanders extended their winning streak to three games with a 5-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Friday night.

They now have points in five straight games (3-0-2).

    RAPID REACTION:

Under three minutes into the game, the Islanders lost Adam Pelech and Sebastian Aho, who were both on the receiving ends of big hits.

Down to four defensemen, taking penalties is not a recipe for success, especially with how the Islanders' penalty kill has been playing as of late.

At 9:37 of the first, Ryan Pulock made his way to the box for tripping.

Drake Batherson made him pay, finishing off a one-time chance from the bumper spot at 10:25 to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.

Kyle Palmieri evened up the score at 13:55 of the first after he banked an Alexander Romanov shot out of the air for his fifth goal of the season.

That was Romanov's first assist of the season.

Brock Nelson recorded the secondary assist to extend his point streak to five games.

The Senators thought they had taken the lead, thanks to a Parker Kelly slapper with 13:28 to play in the second. But the Islanders challenged the play for offside, which it was as the game remained 1-1.

After play was restarted, Oliver Wahlstrom tipped home a Romanov point shot for his second goal of the season to give New York a 2-1 lead at 6:32 of the second.

Mathew Barzal's fifth goal of the season at 9:51 of the second doubled the Islanders lead to 3-1, beating Forsberg blocker side after a strong feed from Kyle Palmieri.

Nelson recorded the secondary assist to give him four goals and four assists over his last five games.

Islanders have scored three or more goals in five consecutive games.

Six seconds later, Anders Lee finished off a Wahlstrom pass as he caught Forsberg cheating on a mini 2-on-1 for his fourth goal of the season, extending the Islanders' lead to 4-1.

Those six seconds were the second-fast two goals in franchise history.

Then Senators scored two goals in 47 seconds to cut the Islanders lead to 4-3. Both came off defensive zone turnovers, as Dobson coughed the puck up, and Tim Stutzle finished off a Mathieu Joseph pass in the slot at 10:56 of the second.

Then after a few turnovers behind the Islanders net, Batherson buried his second of the game at 11:43 of the second, burning on a wide-open cage after a Stutzle pass.

At 5:16 of the third period, the Islanders scored their fifth goal of their game (first time this season) as Noah Dobson's one-timer deflected off of Simon Holmstrons's skate in the slot to extend the Islanders lead to 5-3.

The Islanders found a way with just four defensemen, who locked a ton of minutes in the win:

It was a gusty win, as the Islanders now sit tied for fourth place in the Metropolitan Division and face their standings partner, the Philadelphia Flyers Saturday night at UBS Arena.
