ELMONT, NY -- New York Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin did not make it to the halfway point of Game Three before being pulled for Semyon Varlamov.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho scored a soft goal to make the score 3-1 when Sorokin was pulled with 12:46 left in the second period. Sorokin stopped 11 of 14.
Before the game, coach Patrick Roy lauded Sorokin as a Ferrari.
Earlier, Sorokin allowed goals -- both by defensemen -- to Brent Burns and Dmitriy Orlov.
Sorokin, after briefly retreating to the Islanders dressing room, returned to the tunnel, keeping his helmet on as he watched his team continuing fighting.
Then, somehow, the Islanders turned it on.
Brock Nelson tapped home a puck with 2:21 to play in the second to make it 3-2.
Then the Islanders went to the power play late, but it was negated by a Noah Dobson high stick, leaving the Isles down 3-2 with 20 minutes to play.
