Matthew Barzal scored a goal, including the OT winner, and added three assists, while Noah Dobson picked up four helpers, leading the Islanders to a 4-3 win in overtime vs. the Maple Leafs Thursday.

Mathew Barzal scored the overtime winner along with recording three assists. Noah Dobson had four assists in the game as well.

The Islanders got off to a fast start, as just 40 seconds into the game, Kyle Palmieri slammed a rebound home while on the power play. Matthews took a tripping penalty just 30 seconds in. The initial shot came from Dobson, so he was credited with an assist, where Barzal got the secondary.

Both teams traded chances in a long stretch during the first period without a whistle, including many high-quality opportunities for the Islanders.

It was Toronto who got the game's next goal, though, as Bobby McMann scored his second career goal on a one-timer at 12:38 of the first period. Noah Gregor made the pass across, and T.J. Brodie had the secondary assist.

Martin took a hooking penalty at 13:36, which the Islanders were able to successfully kill off without giving up a major scoring chance.

The first period ended with a 1–1 score.

Matthews started the second period with two quick goals for Toronto. The first one came just 26 seconds in. Marner and Reilly earned the assists.

He scored again on a breakaway 2:14 later, making it 3-1 in favor of the Maple Leafs. Pontus Holmberg had the lone assist.

Alexander Romanov got one back for the Islanders 1:38 after Matthews gave Toronto a two-goal lead. Romanov was given a lot of time and space to walk in, and that is exactly what he did, sniping the puck on Jones.

The Islanders were able to tie the game at three with 13:51 remaining in the middle stanza. Horvat deflected a point shot from Dobson on the power play. Barzal had the secondary assist, which was his third assist of the game. It was Dobson’s third assist as well.

After 40 minutes, the score was deadlocked at three. New York had a strong end to the second period with multiple chances in the final minute but could not get one to go.

Both teams shared possession time in the third period, but no one was able to find the back of the net. Just like the first meeting between these teams on December 11, this game needed overtime. That was a 4-3 win for New York.

21 seconds into overtime Barzal recorded his fourth point of the night, the game-winning goal in overtime as he tipped a slap pass from Dobson into the net. It was Dobson’s fourth assist of the night.

The Islanders took the extra point and won 4-3 over Toronto yet again.
