LAS VEGAS -- The New York Islanders failed to finish off their four-game road trip on a positive note, falling 5-2 to the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night.

New York went 1-2-1 on their western road trip.

After a strong opening minutes by New York, a failed hard-around allowed the Golden Kings to maintain offensive zone time before Jonathan Marchessault found Jack Eichel all alone in the slot at 6:25 of the first.

At 11:13 of the opening frame, Mathew Barzal roofed one on Logan Thompson. But play continued as no one saw it go in before a break in the action led to a review, which showed it clearly entered the back of the net.

Barzal's tying tally and his 11th of the season was assisted by Bo Horvat and Anders Lee.

When the first period came to a close, the Islanders had outshot Vegas 7-2 when Horvat's line was on the ice, per Naturalstatrick.com

The Golden Knights scored two goals in 1:30 to head to the third period up 3-1.

Chandler Stephenson found Pavel Dorofeyev wide open at the back post for a tap-in at 17:11 of the second before Nick Roy's wrist shot beat Sorokin through a Keegan Kolesar screen at 18:41.

The Islanders challenged the Roy goal for goalie interference, but the call on the ice stood.

Due to the failed challenge, the Islanders went on the penalty kill.

The failed-challenge penalty came back to bite the Islanders as Eichel scored his second of the game from the right dot, beating Sorokin through 31 seconds into the third to make it a 4-1 game.

Matt Martin cut the Islanders' deficit to 4-2 at 2:32 of the third. After Casey Cizikas drove the net, Martin dove, chipping the puck over Thompson's glove for his second of the season.

Vegas got the goal right back as Roy scored his second of the game at 4:20 of the third. After Barzal turned the puck over, Sorokin made a tremendous save before Roy walked in and beat him under the glove.
