The Duke scores a power play goal to open the Islanders scoring for 2024-2025, netting his first career tally for his new club.

As the New York Islanders open their season against the Utah Hockey Club, it was Anthony Duclair who gave the Islanders their first goal of the season. The forward broke the ice at 11:10 of the first period on the team's first power play of the season.

As the Islanders got set up in the offensive zone, Mathew Barzal from the left point got it back to Noah Dobson at the high slot. Dobson let a shot fly through traffic that caught Duclair's skate and beat Connor Ingram to give the Islanders the lead.

Utah challenged the goal for goalie interference, but it stood upon review.

Duclair signed a four-year, $14-million contract with the Islanders on July 1 and had a strong showing at training camp. He's built up chemistry alongside Barzal and Bo Horvat on the team's top line. In their final preseason game on Oct. 5, all three players lit the lamp, with Duclair adding a goal and two assists.

While the trio didn't fully combine for the first goal of regular season play, the Islanders are hopefully it will be a sign of things to come on their top line.
