Noah Dobson hits a milestone on the Islanders first goal against Dallas.

While Sunday night’s game for the New York Islanders is a historic night for new head coach Patrick Roy, Noah Dobson reached a personal milestone with his 40th assist of the season on New York’s first goal.

Dobson got a secondary helper on Alex Romanov’s goal. Dobson sparked a breakout by handing the puck to the eventual goal scorer Romanov.

No. 28 and Mathew Barzal played give-and-go down the ice, with Barzal feeding the defenseman on the left side to wire a shot past Scott Wedgewood to give the Islanders a 1-0 lead.

Dobson’s 40th assist made him the first blueliner to accomplish the feat since Mark Streit in 2011-12, as he finished right at the 40-assist mark to tie his Islanders’ career-high. Other names to accomplish the milestone include Denis and Jean Potvin, Stefan Persson, Tomas Jonsson, and Bryan Berard.

Dobson has continued to turn heads after a down 2022-23 season. By rounding out his game, he has become a reliable defenseman in both zones, and his production has improved as a result. Dobson boasts six goals and 40 assists, good for 46 points, and will likely break his previous career-high in points with 51.
