Anders Lee had the perfect idea for a win song based on what Patrick Roy put them through during training camp.

SEATTLE -- On Friday morning over at The Elmonters, my Monday through Friday New York Islanders newsletter, I shared my conversation with captain Anders Lee on why they chose "I'm Your Man" by Wham! as their win song.

"You know the skates…the skates we did at training camp?" Lee asked me. "Roy called those whammies..."

    It all made sense.

I asked a few other players about their win song and if they could remember exactly when the decision was made.

"I think it was more Anders. I feel like it was just, after our first win, that's what we came into the locker room hearing," Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock said. "I kinda like it. It's pretty creative. You get a little vibe. It's a good vibe."

I then peeled over to Kyle Palmieri, who provided some more information.

"I'm pretty sure it started in preseason, but I'm not totally sure," Palmieri told THN. "Sometimes, for some reason, the whole "win" song thing sneaks up on you, and you're unprepared. But Leesy had it ready in the hopper, so I think I have to give him credit.

"His Spotify has a pretty wide range, so I think he's pretty well versed in different eras and different genres of music. He keeps it interesting around here."

The last stop was Bo Horvat, who backed up Palmieri with the start time.

"Lee played it in one of the preseason games after a win, and we kind of just ran with it," Horvat told THN. "I think it's very fitting for how our training camp went and all the whammies that we did.

"He's a creative guy. He's always doing stuff like that. He's a great leader, and having that kind of fun with the group makes it that much better."
