Anders Lee, Islanders Ready To Get Back To Work: 'There's A Good Little Buzz'

New York Islanders captain Anders Lee is ready to get back to work ahead of the 2024-25 season.

New York Islanders training camp will get underway in about a month or so.

While on a call to discuss his upcoming Jam Kancer event, Islanders captain Anders Lee answered some questions about the upcoming season.

Of course, with Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin not "expected" back next season, the Captain offered his thoughts.

"These are two guys that have been the heart and soul of our team for a very long time. Matty is obviously, and Clutter as well, but Matty's been in this organization and meant a lot to our room and the community of Long Island for a very long time."

Lee continued, "You don't get better teammates, regardless of what happens, those are going to be spots or shoes or skates, whatever you want to say, that are going to be tough to fill."

With only a few weeks remaining before training camp, Lee is already looking forward to being back on Long Island to see his two long-time teammates personally.

"I'm looking forward to getting back on the Island and seeing them here soon, in the next few weeks. But, yeah, it's one of those things. Unfortunately, it's part of this business. I have no idea what's going on, but again, I can't wait to see those guys and tell them how much I care for them and wish them nothing but the best, but selfishly as well, hoping for the best on our end."

Although Lee was saddened by the departure of longtime teammates, he is excited to get things going for the 2024–2025 Islanders season.

"I like the way we look," gushed Lee. "I'm excited to get back and get to work on things. Obviously, Patrick coming in and, you know, seeing us for a little bit of last season and pushing us through to the end, I think his opportunity here to, and ours, as well as players, to all, come together at camp and put ourselves in a position to hit the ground running."

No. 27 continued his bright outlook. "We've had plenty of time off. Let's just get back and go after this. It's that time of summer when you're feeling really good, your body's in a great spot, and you want nothing more than to just get things rolling again. So enjoy the rest of the time here with the families. And I can't wait to get back and get going."

As far as Lee's first training camp under Islanders coach Patrick Roy, he expects it to be a vigorous one.

"I think we should be pushed as hard as we can. And, I think this is a group that responds well to that and one that is going to be prepared. That'll be demanded from us, from everyone on down to each player. So Patty is going to put us through it, and it'll be a good one. Like I said, I think the guys are just itching to get back and itching to get to work."
