Following Anders Lee’s departure for Utah, the veteran forward and former Canucks leader takes the reigns to guide a new era of New York hockey on Long Island.
The New York Islanders announced on Monday morning that Bo Horvat has been named the 16th captain in franchise history.
Horvat will now fill the role that Anders Lee left behind, with the veteran forward signing a three-year deal with the Utah Mammoth this summer.
Lee was named captain ahead of the 2019-20 season after the departure of John Tavares.
Horvat has worn the "C" before, as he was named captain of the Vancouver Canucks in 2019 and held that position until the Islanders acquired him on Jan. 30, 2023.
Matthew Schaefer, 19, will be captain one day but Horvat is a perfect leader to hold down the "C" fort for now, until the organization believes the superstar defenseman is ready.
