The Bridgeport Islanders had another split weekend, losing 3-0 to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday night before a 2-1 overtime win over the Springfield Thunderbirds.
Ruslan Iskhakov scored his first two goals since opening night with a monster performance against Springfield. On both goals, which included the overtime winner, his speed was on full display as he shot up the ice like a cannon.
Iskhakov is leading Bridgeport with 10 points (four goals, six assists.)
Samuel Asselin continued to stay hot with assists on both of the Iskhakov goals, with five points (three goals, two assists), in his last six games
Ken Appleby made 20 saves on the 21 shots he faced against Springfield. His record improves to 2-2 on the season after two straight wins in goal.
Jakub Skarek took the loss on Friday while stopping 26 of the 29 Hartford shots. Skarek’s record on the year shifted to 2-4-1.
William Dufour was scratched for both of Bridgeport’s games this weekend. He has one goal and two assists in nine games this season.
This weekend was very similar to the previous weekend, as the Islanders lost the first game of a back-to-back but won the second game in overtime.
There were many similarities between the wins specifically. Both were at home against Springfield, with the team wearing the fisherman jerseys. Appleby started both games, and both ended in overtime.
The Bridgeport Islanders are looking to carry this momentum into a busy week ahead.
They’ll start with a rare midweek game as they host the Syracuse Crunch on Tuesday, Nov. 14, with an early 10:30 a.m. puck drop.
Moving to the weekend, there is a home-and-home with the Hershey Bears.
The Islanders head to Hersey Friday night before Hershey heads to Total Mortgage Arena Saturday.
Puck drop for both games is at 7 p.m.
But like an infomercial," But wait, there's more!", Bridgeport hosts the Providence Bruins on Sunday at 3 p.m.
