Brock Nelson ties Team USA's all-time goal scoring record at IIHF Men's World Championship.
On Sunday, New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson recorded his 19th career goal at the IIHF Men's World Championship while representing the United States of America.
Nelson achieved the record tying goal in the first period of a 10-1 blowout win for Team USA over Kazakhstan.
Matt Boldy (Minnesota Wild) passed the puck to Jake Sanderson (Ottawa Senators), who sent a slap shot at the net which then produced a rebound for Nelson to drive home:
The goal puts Nelson in a tie with Russell "Buzz" Johnson for the all-time lead in career goals for Team USA at the IIHF Mens World Championships.
Johnson represented Team USA from 1947-1950.
This IIHF Championship marks the sixth time that Nelson has suited up for the US in the tournament (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2024).
He had to wait seven years to get back in red, white and blue.
Nelson has seven points with three goals and four assists in six games played so far in this year’s tournament.
Up next for Nelson and Team USA is a preliminary matchup with Latvia on Tuesday, May 21 at 10:20 AM ET.
