As Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final looms on Monday, a longtime NHL forward is hanging up the skates.
Derrick Brassard announced his retirement after 16 seasons, including a one-year stint with the New York Islanders:
Brassard signed with the team in August of 2019, taking up a role in the Islanders’ middle six. In that role, he had an effective season, totaling 10 goals and 22 assists for 32 points prior to the league’s COVID-19 stoppage in March.
Once the postseason came around, he helped the Islanders into the Conference Final for the first time since 1993, totaling two goals and six assists in 18 postseason games:
Brassard was drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the first round of the 2006 NHL Draft. He played with 10 teams throughout his career, most notably including the New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators.
He received his silver stick for playing in 1,000 games on March 2, 2023.
In 1,013 games lifetime, he scored 215 goals and 330 assists for 545 points.
