The long-time Islanders captain trades his iconic jersey number for a fresh start in Utah, yielding to Barrett Hayton while embracing a new numerical identity out West.

Former New York Islanders captain Anders Lee will not be wearing No. 27 in his first season with the Utah Mammoth.

Instead, the forward who signed a three-year deal worth $5.3 million annually will be sporting No. 72.

No. 27 belongs to forward Barrett Hayton, who has spent seven seasons with the organization after being selected fifth overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2017, the organization that relocated to Utah following the 2023-24 season.

The New Jersey Devils offer sheeted Hayton a few days ago, but Utah matched.

While Lee wore No. 27 throughout his entire time with the Islanders, he did wear No. 9 at the University of Notre Dame.
