Drafted by New York in 1985, Brad Lauer brings extensive NHL coaching experience to the national stage as he joins the bench for Canada’s 2027 gold medal quest.
On Tuesday, Hockey Canada announced their coaching staff for the 2027 World Junior Championships.
Former New York Islanders forward Brad Lauer will serve as an assistant coach:
Lauer, whom the Islanders selected in the second round (No. 34) of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft, played six of his nine NHL seasons on Long Island.
He recorded 98 points (38 goals, 60 assists) in 259 regular-season games for the Islanders, adding eight points (five goals, three assists) in 15 playoff games for the Blue & Orange.
Lauer, who spent time as an assistant coach with the Ottawa Senators, Anahiem Ducks, Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets, last served as head coach of the WHL's Spokane Chiefs.
He did not coach in 2025-26.
