San Jose Sharks defenseman Nick Leddy has been placed on waivers.

Former New York Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy has been placed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks, per Sheng Peng

Leddy, 34, has four points -- all assists -- in 19 games played with the Sharks this season.

He was claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Blues on July 3, 2025, and is in the final year of a four-year, $16 million contract ($4 million AAV) signed on July 13, 2022.

At a $4 million cap hit for the remainder of the season, his salary is manageable from the Islanders’ perspective, given their ability to utilize LTIR due to season-ending injuries to Kyle Palmieri, Alexander Romanov, and Pierre Engvall.

Leddy was traded from the Islanders on July 16, 2021, after spending parts of seven seasons with the organization and appearing in a combined 585 regular-season and playoff games.

With Romanov sidelined for the season, the Islanders have been searching for a replacement on the left side of their defense.

Islanders general manager Mathieu Darche has stated his desire to fill the hole internally, but it is possible the Islanders go after Leddy for his veteran presence and puck-moving ability.

The Islanders are 21st on the waiver wire.
