The New York Islanders made their first move of a potential sale at the Trade Deadline on Thursday night, sending Brock Nelson and William Dufour to the Colorado Avalanche.

In return, the Islanders received forward Calum Ritchie, a 2026 first-round pick, a conditional 2027 third-round pick and Oliver Kylington, who was later flipped to the Anaheim Ducks.

BREAKING: Islanders Trade Brock Nelson To Avalanche In Blockbuster Move BREAKING: Islanders Trade Brock Nelson To Avalanche In Blockbuster Move After trying to retain the aging goal scorer, the New York Islanders have traded Brock Nelson to the Colorado Avalanche:

As is the case with several trade deadline deals, the picks involved do have their share of conditions.

The first-round pick could be transferred to 2027, contingent on Colorado’s deal for defenseman Sean Walker last year.

The Avalanche sent Ryan Johansen and a conditional 2025 first to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Walker and a 2026 fifth-round pick.

If the Avalanche's upcoming first-round pick is in the top 10 of the draft, Colorado keeps it, sending their 2026 first-rounder to Philadelphia, leaving the Islanders with the 2027 first.

However, if the Avalanche's pick is not in the top 10—and it's looking like that will be the case—the Islanders would get their 2026 first.

The 2028 third is more straightforward. To receive it, the Avalanche must win the Stanley Cup this year and Nelson must play in at least half of their playoff games.

The NHL Trade Deadline is set for Friday at 3:00 p.m.
