New York Islanders prospect Tomas Poletin was selected with the first overall pick in the 2025 CHL Import Draft by the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound winger, selected in the fourth round (No. 106) by the Islanders in the 2025 NHL Draft, split time between a handful of different teams and leagues in the 2024-25 season.
His year was capped off by a 23-game stint (15 regular season games, eight post season games) with the Lahti Pelicans in Liiga, Finland's premier men's league, where he scored one goal.
He also scored two goals in five games as Czechia's captain at the U18's.
Poletin, who has had a strong development camp with the Islanders, will now settle down in the Rockets' lineup.
Kelowna has an impressive history of developing its imports, led by longtime NHLers Alexander Edler and Mikael Backlund.
At just 18-years-old, Poletin has two-years of CHL eligiblity.
