NEW YORK, NY -- New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson sat at his stall following Monday's morning skate ahead of his 900th career NHL game, which will come against the cross-town rival New York Rangers.
With two games left before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, the 34-year-old's future with the Islanders remains a question mark.
He's the No. 1 name on the market, if the Islanders elect to sell. But, will general manager Lou Lamoriello go that route?
That's yet to be decided, at least publicly, but it sounds like contract talks are still going on between the two sides.
"I love playing here. I'm still playing here. So, until someone tells me differently, I'm just worried about playing and making a difference in the games," Nelson said. "I feel great. I have a lot of years left. It's easy to say you want to get this done or vice versa. But there's another side of it too that doesn't always work out how people want or need. So, there's a lot of different things that go into it."
Nelson is doing exactly what he needs to be doing ahead of the deadline. He's heating up, with points in five straight games (three goals, five assists).
"Obviously, there's a lot going on and everyone's like, 'Hey, the deadline is Friday. Let's get an answer right now and decide.'," Nelson said. "It may not work out that way. There's a number of different situations that could play out in contract [talks]. It could be one that is left not done. You don't have to have one by Friday. We'll see how everything plays out."
