New York Islanders prospect and Oshawa Generals forward Calum Ritchie has rediscovered his scoring touch during the late stages of the OHL Playoffs.
After 28 goals in 50 games during the 2023-24 season, Ritchie only scored 15 in 47 regular season games in 2024-25, his final year of junior hockey.
Many Colorado Avalanche fans and then Islanders fans, after Ritchie was packaged in the Brock Nelson deal, were concerned with the lack of goals.
After just one goal in their six-round series with the Brampton Steelheads, Ritchie scored three goals in their six-game series against the Brantford Bulldogs.
But, then, another couple of games went by without goals, three to be exact, before scoring twice, once in Game 1 and again in Game 4, in their semi-final sweep of the Barrie Colts.
Still, the goals weren't coming as consistently as Ritchie would have hoped.
Then came the OHL Finals against the London Knights.
Ritchie built on that Game 4 goal against Barrie, scoring a goal in each of the first two games against London. While he didn't score in Game 3, he added an assist, which extended his point streak to five games, dating back to Game 3 against Barrie.
Then, in Game 4, Ritchie found the back of the net yet again, giving him four goals and five assists for nine points over his last six games.
To sum things up, Ritchie had five goals through the first 15 games of the playoffs. He has four goals over his last five games.
Oshawa trails London three games to one in their best-of-seven series.
Ritchie is expected to make the Islanders out of training camp and could be their starting third-line center to begin the 2025-26 season.
