Mathew Barzal remains sidelined as the shorthanded squad heads west, forcing a roster shuffle after fresh injuries to Matias Maccelli and Cal Ritchie impacted the forward depth.
EAST MEADOW, NY -- Forwards Mathew Barzal, Matias Maccelli, and Cal Ritchie will not be traveling with the New York Islanders on their upcoming three-game road trip, per head coach Pete DeBoer.
Barzal, who hasn't played at all this season, continues to skate on his own as he works his way back from left knee inflammation stemming from his previous injury.
There is no timeline for when he'll return to a team practice.
Maccelli (lower body) and Ritchie (lower body), both injured in the first period of the Islanders' 4-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Oct. 17, have not been on the ice with the team, and it's not known whether they have been skating on their own.
Maccelli's injury carries a 2-4 week timeline, while Ritchie's was 4-6 weeks.
The Islanders recalled forward Mitchell Chaffee from Hamilton of the American Hockey League on Monday morning, but we could see the team recalling another forward, as they currently have no extra forwards.
Hamilton plays on Saturday at 3 PM ET.
The Islanders face the Dallas Stars on Sunday at 6 PM ET, the Nashville Predators on Tuesday at 8 PM ET and the Minnesota Wild on Thursday at 8 PM ET before returing home.
