Pulock, Romanov, and Palmieri near full health. Varlamov conditions while Engvall's future remains uncertain as the Islanders navigate their injured roster.
EAST MEADOW, NY -- The New York Islanders are entering the season fairly healthy.
Here's an update on the injured players:
Ryan Pulock: Dealt with an upper-body injury consistently throughout the season, as well as a knee issue against the Montreal Canadiens in Montreal. He'll talk with doctors about potential procedures, but expects to be ready to go for training camp.
Contract status: Three years left at $6.15 million AAV
Alexander Romanov: Dealing with a right shoulder injury that required surgery, he was so close to returning to the lineup. He would have been ready for the start of the playoffs, but he said that it was on the earlier side. He'll be ready to go for training camp.
Contract status: Seven years left at $4.75 million AAV
Kyle Palmieri: Working his way back from a torn ACL, Palmieri says he will be ready to go for training camp. His rehab has gone really well, and he has been back on the ice for a while. He's a little over 4 months post-op and feels really good.
Contract status: one year left at $4.75 million AAV
Semyon Varlamov: The grizzled veteran is working his way back from two knee replacements. He is currently in Bridgeport on a conditioning stint, where he is expected to play in one of their final three games of the season.
Contract status: one year left at $2.75 million AAV
Pierre Engvall: He missed the entire season after offseason hip surgery followed by ankle surgery. He did hop on the ice and skate a few times -- at least a few times we were able to see -- but his status going forward remains unknown.
Contract status: four years left at $3 million AAV
