Alex Jefferies’ new deal secures a depth piece for New York while triggering a strategic buyout window, allowing the team to potentially shed high-priced veteran contracts.
On Friday morning, Elliotte Friedman reported that the New York Islanders and forward Alex Jefferies reached an agreement on a one-year, two-way deal ahead of their July 31 arbitration hearing:
Jefferies, whom the Islanders selected in the fourth round (No. 121) in 2020, recorded 29 points (nine goals, 20 assists) in 60 games for Bridgeport in 2025-26.
Despite settling before that hearing, the Islanders will still be awarded a second buyout window which opens three days after the settlememnt, meaning Monday at 5 PM ET.
The buyout window lasts 48 hours and can only be used on players with a cap hit north of $4 million.
