
The New York Islanders will open their 2025-26 season on October 9 against the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena.
The Islanders went 3-1-0 against the Penguins in 2024-25, with their only loss coming in Game 2 of a back-to-back in late December.
New York will then have their home opener on October 11 when they host the Washington Capitals at UBS Arena.
The last time the Islanders played the Capitals was on April 15 — Matt Martin’s final career home game.
Before that, the two teams squared off on April 6, when Alexander Ovechkin notably broke Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record with the 895th tally of his career:
Despite Ovechkin's achievement, the Islanders won that game 4-1, thanks to a two-goal performance from Marc Gatcomb and Ilya Sorokin’s 28 saves.
