On Wednesday, news broke that that the New York Islanders were moving on from their radio team.
As confirmed by the organization, the Islanders plan to have a simulcast instead.
What is a simulcast?
A simulcast is when a television broadcast is played over the radio. So, for the Islanders' fans, the radio dial will have Brendan Burke and Butch Goring's call of the game.
It's not a perfect game plan because a television broadcast is much less detailed, given that fans are legitimately watching the action. But it's something that several NHL teams are doing, a shift in the industry.
What still needs to be determined is what will happen when the Islanders play on national television, as opposed to MSG Network Sports (MSGSN).
I wonder if we could see something like the Manning Cast, where Chris King comes back in some way and talks hockey with alumni during games. That might be a terrific way for Kinger to stay involved.
As with everything involving the Islanders, things are fluid, so we'll see how this radio saga unfolds.
