The Islanders had another solid night on special teams, going 1-for-2 on the power play and killing the only penalty taken.
Four minutes into the game, Noah Dobson found Pierre Engvall with a terrific cross-ice pass in the offensive zone. Engvall buried it for his fourth goal of the season, giving the Islanders the early 1-0 lead.
Barzal thought he scored shortly after to put the Islanders up 2-0 with the goaltender Martin sliding into the net, but the puck did not cross the goal line keeping it a one-goal game.

Casey Cizikas added the secondary assist.
A fortunate bounce off a Blue Jacket skate from a Scott Mayfield slapshot landed right on the stick of Barzal, who scored for the eighth time this season. The time of the goal was 18:51, and Mike Reilly had the secondary assist.
Just 28 seconds later, with the Islanders on the power play, a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from Barzal to Nelson to Palmieri resulted in a goal. The league’s 7th-ranked power play stayed hot to add to New York’s lead, making the score 4-2. For the Islanders, it was three goals in 4:49 and two goals in 28 seconds.
The Blue Jackets were the better team in the second period, but it was the Islanders who came away with the 4-2 lead. Columbus had 15 shots in the middle stanza, compared to 12 from New York.
