A clerical correction shifts the timeline for New York’s additional roster management period, though high salary thresholds make further veteran cuts unlikely before the new deadline.

On Friday, Elliotte Friedman reported that the New York Islanders and forward Alex Jefferies had settled on a one-year, two-way deal ahead of his July 31 scheduled arbitration hearing.

Per the rules, if a player files for arbitration, the organization is granted a second buyout window that begins three days after the settlement and lasts 48 hours.

That led me to believe the second window would open this past Monday at 5 PM ET and close on Wednesday at 5 PM ET.

However, I made an error.

While the deal was reported on Friday, the Islanders made it official on Wednesday, and that's what matters.

That now means the second buyout window opens three days from then, meaning Saturday at 5 PM ET, and comes to a close on Monday at 5 PM ET.

Per the rules, only a player who carries a cap hit north of $4 million annually AND was on the team by the 2026 NHL Trade Deadline is eligible.

Do not expect the Islanders to use this second buyout window.
