After a successful first day at the 2025 NHL Draft, the New York Islanders used the 42nd overall pick to select forward Daniil Prokhorov of the MHL.
Playing for MHK Dynamo St. Petersburg, Prokhorov scored 20 goals with 7 assists for 27 points in 43 games.
Prokhorov’s calling card is his size. The Russian uses his 6’6” and 218-pound frame to his advantage, hitting opponents at every turn and pushing defenders off the puck.
Prokhorov also has decent puck skills and an excellent shot, as evidenced by his 20 goals in the Russian junior league.
The right winger will be a bit of a project, though, and needs time to develop overseas.
Prokhorov’s physicality and tenacity match the Islanders’ prior selections in Victor Eklund and Kashawn Aitcheson—general manager Mathieu Darche appears to be targeting highly competitive prospects.
