The New York Islanders' schedule has been set for just under a month, with new exciting dates still popping up.
Meanwhile, the Carolina Hurricanes just revealed their promotional schedule earlier this week, with a very exciting tidbit.
The Hurricanes will host their annual "Whalers Night" game on Thursday, January 28, against the Islanders.
It's a new tradition in Raleigh held annually, where the Hurricanes revert in time to when they were the Hartford Whalers, who moved to Raleigh in 1997.
The last time the Islanders played the Whalers was in 1997, the penultimate game for the Whalers' season and time in Connecticut.
The game was played in Nassau Coliseum on April 11, 1997. The Islanders won 6-4, behind Robert Reichel's two-goal, three-point night. Claude Lapointe added two goals himself. Éric Fichaud started in net for New York and made 28 saves in the win.
The last time the Islanders played a road game against Hartford was on January 24, 1997, in what will be almost 30 years to the date of this year's "Whaler Night" in Raleigh.
The Islanders again came out victorious, knocking off Hartford 5-2 behind a Derek King hat trick and Ziggy Palffy's two-goal night.
King, who played with the Islanders from 1986 through 1997, was dealt to Hartford at that season's trade deadline. So, King saw himself on both sides of New York and Hartford's final two meetings in 1997.
Reichel, who powered the Islanders to that April win, came aboard in a separate deal struck moments after the Islanders dealt King to Hartford.
