After the plans for the 2026 NHL All-Star Game at UBS Arena were scrapped in April, league commissioner Gary Bettman announced on Wednesday that the New York Islanders have the next chance to host the marquee event.
Ahead of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final, he said 2027’s event will come to UBS Arena with a potentially revised format.
The Islanders were originally set to host the event in 2026, with an announcement coming on Feb. 18, 2024, as they faced the New York Rangers at MetLife Stadium in the league’s Stadium Series. However, with the success of the inaugural 4 Nations Faceoff earlier this year, the league replaced the event with a sendoff for the league’s return to the Olympics in Milano-Cortina next February.
Previously, the event featured a divisional, three-on-three tournament with the winning team receiving a $1 million prize, but Bettman said the format is to be determined.
We'll see what the league decides to do.
As for the Olympic send-off, here's what Bettman said previously.
"We’ll have an event at UBS before we go to the Olympics, but then we’ll do something that’s more focused on a major hockey event for the following year. We have a little bit of time to finalize what we’re doing.” (H/t Newsday)
